About Me
I’m Laura, the owner and editor at Hummingbird Editing and Proofreading!
I'm a former teacher, which I did for 14 years. I live in Melbourne with my bestie, Patch, who is the best dog a girl could ask for. I love reading, travelling, winter, cups of tea, and wearing overalls.
Hummingbird Editing is over a year old now, and I've had time to not only refine my skills and do more professional learning, but also my process and my approach.
One thing about me, I'm a Scorpio, and that fierce loyalty and protectiveness for my clients definitely comes through. My dream is to make your publishing dreams come true, and while editing contributes to that, I also think gentle, honest, and solution-based feedback and building rapport with clients does too. As an editor, I prefer the collaborative approach—staying in contact during the edits, getting feedback from you, and fangirling about how great your manuscript is. I adapt my feedback style and communication levels to each client, and I learn their writing style and voice so I never impose on it. I will only ever try to enhance your voice and make your manuscript the best it can be.
I will be your hype girl. I will leave unhinged comments in your manuscript (along with the helpful ones). I will promote your book with pride. I will help you in any way I can, whether it be finding you trustworthy Beta or ARC readers, helping you through moments of imposter syndrome, finding ways to help you improve your writing, finding a critique partner or a sensitivity reader.
I work with a variety of genres, but mainly romance, as that is what I love to read, and I do so, avidly. So far, I have experience with contemporary, paranormal, fantasy, general fiction, sci-fi, some with elements of mystery, and with varying levels of spice and darkness. I do love a dark romance!
I also like to keep busy! I do editing and blurb writing, co-host a podcast, and am currently putting together an anthology.
