While I am an avid romance reader, I am open to editing most genres. I prefer not to edit non-fiction or high fantasy. The only trigger I have is on-page animal cruelty and death. That's not a deal-breaker, I just like to know in advance.
Yes! I think sample edits are so important for authors in deciding who to take on as editor, as well as for editors in choosing who to take on as clients. My sample edits for a line/copy edit are for 1000 words and I provide in-line feedback and separate written feedback via email.
For a developmental edit, I will provide a sample edit on the first 2 chapters with in-line feedback and written feedback via email.
If you're looking to book both services, I can do a combo of the two!
Sample edits are free and no-strings-attached! But you will have a week to decide if you'd like to go ahead with your booking before I move on to the next person in the waitlist.
I currently work on full-length and novella-length manuscripts, as well as short stories.
I offer developmental edits, line and copy edits, and proofreads.
This is a tricky one to answer. Typically, it would take me 4-5 weeks to do two passes on a full-length novel around 90,000-100,000 words. My turnaround time always depends on word count, how much work a manuscript will need, and the client's response time when reviewing edits between passes.
For a proofread, I set aside 2-3 weeks, but typically do it within 1-2. This again depends on the amount of work a manuscript needs.
This depends on where you are in the writing and editing process. The first type of edit you could have is developmental, which you do before any other types of professional edits. If you have engaged alpha or beta readers, you might opt to skip a developmental edit and go straight to a line edit. If you feel confident with your manuscript's structure and your plot and pacing, this might be the right course of action. Keep in mind that beta feedback and developmental editor feedback are very different.
If you are ready for a line or copy edit, I offer a combination of the two. To be honest, I find it hard to do one without the other, so I love doing them both at once. A real 'why choose' situation.
If you have had a line/copy edit and need one final pass of your manuscript before it goes to publication, then you would go for a proofread!

I offer a collaborative and traditional editing approach to my clients. With a collaborative approach, the client is very involved in the edits and reviews my edits more regularly (in a line/copy edit).
I offer my clients a collaborative and traditional editing approach, sending the document back after a complete pass (rather than a few chapters at a time for clients to review). This approach is still collaborative, just not as much back and forth.
During a developmental edit, I offer a 40-minute video/voice check-in after final handover, but am normally emailing or DMing to ask questions or share what I'm loving.
I think I'm pretty funny and easy to get along with, but I'm also always learning how to run a business. I'm flexible and supportive and ask a bunch of questions. I love leaving excited comments in your manuscript, but also helpful ones that explain my changes or provide further learning. I try to run a tight ship so that you get the most out of your edit with me.
At the end of the day, I love helping authors make their manuscripts the best they can be and cheering them on long after.
I typically edit on Microsoft Word. I only work digitally, so no hard copies.
I do my proofreads on my Kindle, using a formatted file, which is great because I can pick up on any formatting issues while also looking at the manuscript the way a reader would. I can also do proofreads in a Word doc or on a PDF, either before or after formatting. This is the client's choice.
For developmental edits, I provide in-line feedback, an editorial letter, and a voice/video check-in after final handover. I'm also in your emails and DMs, letting you know how I'm tracking, what I'm loving, and if I have any questions.
For line/copy edits and proofreading, I provide in-line feedback, a style sheet or a proofread report, and am in constant communication via email and Instagram DMs.
That wholly depends on the client. As part of my initial handover process, I always clarify the level of communication a client would like and how they would like to receive it. Some prefer none, to just provide updates via email at edit milestones. Others enjoy regular updates throughout the week.
I try my best to accommodate all my clients and ensure they feel good about how the edit is progressing. But boundaries are also very important.
Absolutely! I always want to be flexible and consider the needs of my clients, and this includes payment. I am happy to work out a payment plan that suits you.
It is important to note that final handover of the edited manuscript only occurs once final payment is made.
If you live in Australia, I offer bank transfer. If you live outside of Australia, you can pay via card on the Square platform. I will send you an invoice that makes this super easy!
To hold a spot in my calendar, yes. This is $150AUD that will come off your total amount owing, rather than being an extra fee. This fee is non-refundable for cancellations, but I will try my best to be flexible if you need to reschedule, pending my availability.
As this is my only source of income, yes. If someone cancels in the month leading up to an edit, they are required to pay 50% of the total edit cost.
If initial handover is late without any communication or enough time to adjust timelines, a late fee will be charged per day the manuscript is late.
I don't want to charge these fees, but if someone cancels too close to handover day, it can mean the difference between me being able to pay bills or not.
I offer discounts for repeat clients!
I also offer free blurb and tagline editing upon purchase of a line/copy edit.

I engage in professional learning regularly and will continue to do so!
